A simple, repeatable routine that turns a scramble into a quiet half hour.
Month-end has a way of arriving all at once. Receipts are scattered, a few transactions look unfamiliar and the urge to “deal with it later” is strong. A small, repeatable routine changes that — and it rarely takes more than half an hour.
01
Choose a regular moment
Pick the same day each month — the first Friday, perhaps — and protect it in your calendar. Consistency matters more than the exact date.
02
Gather what came in and what went out
Download your bank and card statements, collect receipts from your email, phone and wallet, and note any invoices that are still unpaid.
03
Look for anything unusual
Scan for transactions you don’t recognise, duplicate charges or subscriptions you no longer use. Make a short note beside anything you’d like to ask about.
04
Write down one observation
Was income higher or lower than expected? Did a particular expense grow? One sentence is enough — over time these notes become a useful picture of your business.
Keep this close
Your month-end checklist
Statements downloaded for every account
Receipts gathered in one folder
Unpaid invoices noted
Unusual transactions flagged
One observation written down
A tidy month-end isn’t about perfection. It’s about knowing where things stand.
If you’d like support with this rhythm, monthly bookkeeping can take care of the detailed work while you keep the overview.
