How to write a brand photography brief

The one-page brief that makes shoot days calmer, faster and far more useful.

A good brief is the quiet hero of every shoot day. It keeps everyone aligned, protects your budget and makes sure you leave with images you will actually use.

Gather references, colours and textures before the shoot.

Begin with the purpose

What will these images do? Launch a product, refresh your profile, fill a quarter of content? Write it down in one sentence.

Describe the mood, not just the shots

Words like calm, sunlit, tactile or editorial help a photographer understand the feeling you are after. Pair them with a small set of reference images.

A simple setting, styled with a few meaningful objects.

List the must-have shots

  • Hero images for your website and profile
  • Detail shots of products or process
  • Portraits of the people behind the brand
  • Flexible backgrounds with space for text
